Here at d2e we talk a little bit about community. Like a lot… Okay, we talk about community pretty much all the time.

Why?

Plain and simple: Human Connection. (p.s. It’s our third core value!)

Well, let’s dive a little deeper.

First of all, raise your hand if you have ever thought you can do it alone

Me. Absolutely. I put myself in this “I am a leader and I need to be strong for others” mentality. And yeah, some of that is true, sometimes. However, most of the time what I need is human connection. I need to get real and be authentic with others. I need to share my emotions and feelings and not judge what they are.

I was recently reminded of this lesson when I didn’t show up to a small group I had been a part of for a long time. The “truth” I told myself was that I was handling my challenges on my own or was getting support elsewhere. The REAL truth was: I wasn’t. There is always something I need to work on when I’m with different groups of people. With different communities.

That’s the key I’m learning: Connecting with different groups of people, different communities, gives me a fuller look at the world.

You see, it’s not just the fact that we cannot do life on our own (seriously, human connection is so beneficial to our growth!), but bigger than that; connecting in community allows us the space we need to truly become our best selves. If we’re willing, it allows us to see blocks or challenges we have that maybe we didn’t see with the one group of 4 friends we always hang out with. It also allows us to learn new perspectives and challenge our own beliefs to create stronger and more concrete beliefs.

Look, it is amazing to have a core group of dedicated individuals who continue to push you, hold you accountable, and support you (hint: that’s community!). In fact, we highly promote it. However, what if we open our perspective slightly? Would you be willing to embrace community as bigger than just your immediate friend group or family? Would you be willing to step outside of your comfort zone and join the bigger conversation?

Life is short. Life is beautiful. Take action, Be the Community.
